"Hellfire" was the working title for a 2D team building rogue-like. It was made in collaboration with Giant Light Studios. I was the artist for this project. The project was eventually canceled by the client, but here is a representation of the art completed.
First Round of Art Development
Early concept art -- here I was searching for style and theme. We knew we wanted something spooky but with room to be quirky.
Initial background tests. Here the goal was to find a balance between colorful and gloomy. I tried a more painterly style for the background to see if it would make the more cell-shaded characters stand out.
Later background designs. Eventually we did decide to opt for a cell shaded style, with solid black shadows.

Second Round of Art Development
Several months into production, the clients made decisions that required us to overhaul the theming and art style entirely. The following art was created over the course of a month before the project was put on hold.
New style tests. The new art direction had to come together quickly, so I skipped more free-form explorations in favor of trying to fill in the preexisting game layout. This time, the goal was something more sombre and atmospheric.
